A Girl and Her Figs
There is a downside to eating lots of fruits and veggies...constant changing of diapers (glad that's behind us) and wiping of bums. After her 6th (or was it her 7th?) fig I had to intervene 'cause I draw the line at 4-5 assisted wipes per day.

Art
Yesterday Sage decided to draw a family picture. While hard at work she turned to me, sized me up and asked, "How big is your head Mama?" I showed her with my hands and she proceeded to draw it.
Left to right: Me (with the melonhead and no arms), Sage, Shane (note the long legs) and Baby (who has yet to be created)

Beach Date
Shane's cute sister Kristi was in town so she and her best buddy, also named Christi, babysat Sage so off we we went off to Laguna (our love to the Christi's). Shane and I have the same expectations for date night: good food and good conversation in a great setting so this is our usual date:
We park in our favorite parking lot right by Main Beach...it's free after 7 PM. Then we stroll over to Peppertree Lane where La Rue Du Chocolat (best chocolate shop ever) awaits. We recommend the Giant Peanut Butter Cup, Coconut Toasties and the Chocolate Covered Mac Nuts.
Next we walk up and down the beach, find a comfortable spot and get settled in. We chose a lifeguard stand this time around.
And last, we eat our chocolate goodies and talk until we can hardly keep our eyes open.
It's a simple life and I love it.

An End and A Beginning
We spent our last day with Amy and her darling girls who are moving to Spain (just for a year thankfully). The sand, the sun, the surfers at San Onofre...we soaked it all up!
At BYU I remember thinking that Californians were crazy...wearing their flimsy flip flops in all kinds of weather. Oh, but now I understand...Rainbows are like butter, like second skin. Shane and I wear them constantly and I have a feeling that, wherever we end up, we'll always be crazy Californians with our Rainbows permanently attached to our feet.
....the Rainbow store and bought her very first pair of Rainbows!
I think this is the start of a life lived in flip flops.

Listen Up
A college roommate introduced me to Ben Folds Five. I listened faithfully until they broke up a few years back. Now out on his own Ben Folds is still the same...the raucous piano playing, the poignant songs that unfold a story (think "Brick"-his first big hit). He also manages to make songs that are achingly beautiful like "The Luckiest." Listen up here.
P.S. Another favorite is "Gracie" a love song to his young daughter. Hear it here (just ignore the video).

The Babes: Part 1
Sage currently has three lovely dolls. I can't get a picture of them because they are snoozing with her (minus 1 she left at a friend's house). She calls them her "babes."
Shane and I sometimes don't see eye to eye on baby names. When I bring up the naming of future children his eyes glaze over and he asks if we can talk about this another time (preferably never).
In an effort to get him used to some of my favorite names I've given Sage's baby dolls (past and present) some lovely names: Ciel (See-elle), Matisse (R.I.P.), India and Tessa. Sneaky eh? Well it worked. He's heard those names so many times that he doesn't mind them anymore. I'm working on boys names too...Sage's fish is named Dominic.
P.S. We almost named Sage "Cosette" but with a last name like ours we decided Sage fit better.
