traveling days are done

Brace face

Sage and I have been traveling to LA every 6 weeks or so since October for her orthodontist appointments. Yes it's a long way to travel and yes it's exhausting (there and back in 1 day) but the results are worth it. And yes Dr. Hang is a pretty special ortho, one of only a handful of guys in the country who use unconventional treatment methods i.e. widen upper jaw, move lower jaw forward...exclusively on kiddos ages 4-11.  This time Sage had her braces and expanser removed and got a retainer.  next visit she gets a big old appliance that postures her jaw forward.

Our travel day goes something like this: Wake up very early (between 4-5 AM), walk to bus stop (1/2 mile), ride bus 1 hour to airport, hop on plane to LAX for 2.5 hour flight. Take shuttle to rental car, pick up rental car, drive 1 hour to Thousand Oaks, go to appointment (1/2-1 hr), grab a smoothie and some goodies at Trader Joe's, drive back to LA, drop off rental, take shuttle back to airport, hop on plane and back home. Catch bus back to Boulder.

Phew! Long day. In spite of the long travel days I sure love getting Sage all to myself for a day.  And Shane is wonderful and has Micah without any break...tiring on Micah's hard days.

We ordered up a perfect day...not a cloud in the sky.

Well this week our trip was 2 days long since she had to wait for a new appliance being made. It sure felt leisurely compared to the usual trip. We had time to go to Malibu and soak up the sun, eat at In-N-Out (mmmmm) and spend the night with a friend who lives right by LAX (thanks J!).

This mama's travel days are over.  Shane will take over for the next six months or so of treatment.
